Systems of Substance I, 2017 Hand coloured Silver gelatin photograph

Systems of Substance

Andrew’s conceptually linked series of silver gelatin photographs, Systems of Substance, 2016, made possible through Andrew’s research at Musée du quai Branly, Paris, as a Photography Residencies Laureate in 2016, extends and further interrogates the impact of the horizon line on the ‘possessed’. The artist spliced the photomontages horizontally to impose a surreal disjunction and hegemonic tension between untamed nature and First Nations peoples in various stages of colonisation: intensifying the unsettledness and dissonance evoked by Possessed.
